BREAST CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION RAISES $2.85 MILLION FOR LIFESAVING RESEARCH AT VIRTUAL SYMPOSIUM & AWARDS LUNCHEON

Today October 14, 2021, BCRF held its annual Symposium & Awards Luncheon in a virtual format. Nearly 1,000 attendees joined from around the world to hear directly from esteemed breast cancer experts about the latest strides in research that BCRF is funding, and to honor some of the incredible people making that research possible. The inspiring event raised $2.85 million to ensure that, even in the midst of global crisis, BCRF’s international legion of leading scientists can continue their lifesaving work.

Designer Stella McCartney, OBE was honored with the Sandra Taub Humanitarian Award in recognition of her dedication and advocacy for Breast Cancer Awareness and Research. Dame Lesley Fallowfield received the Jill Rose Award for Scientific Excellence. The afternoon was co-hosted by actress Rosario Dawson and Tony Award-winning actor Norbert Leo Butz, and featured appearances by Alina Cho, Chelsea Handler, Kinga Lampert, Leonard Lauder, William Lauder, Aerin Lauder, Marigay McKee, Arlene Taub and others. In addition, the event featured special content directed by actress and stage IV breast cancer thriver Shannen Doherty as part of Lifetime’s Stop Breast Cancer for Life Campaign, in support of BCRF.   The video included stars of Lifetime’s feature film List of a Lifetime, Doherty, Kelly Hu, Sylvia Kwan and Patricia Velasquez.

 

“This is a cause close to all of our hearts.  I lost my ​mum to breast cancer and have committed myself to ending this disease. I’m so proud to stand with BCRF,” said Stella McCartney.  “Let’s keep their great work going so that nobody ever has to lose another loved one to this ​devastating disease.  Thank you again for this incredible honor.  Truly, I am so, so grateful.”

While accepting the Jill Rose Award for Scientific Excellence, Dame Lesley Fallowfield shared that, “Over the last couple of decades, BCRF has funded some truly exceptional scientists and clinicians. Together, they’ve increased our understanding of breast cancer, and this has led to the development of new tests and treatments, which give many more women worldwide the genuine prospect of a cure or of living much longer and better lives with their disease.”

Kinga Lampert, Leonard A. Lauder, and William P. Lauder were the honorary chairs. Event co-chairs included Madelyn Bucksbaum Adamson, Roberta M. Amon, Jody Gottfried Arnhold, Maria Baum, Louise Camuto, Amy Goldman Fowler, Roslyn Goldstein, Marjorie Reed Gordon, Betsy S. Green, Dee Ocleppo Hilfiger, Gail Hilson, Shelly Kivell, Elyse Lacher, Aerin Lauder, Marigay McKee, Amy E. Newburger, MD, Wendi Rose, Jeanne Sorensen Siegel, Arlene Taub, and Simone Winston.
